Known for her expressive linework and bold use of colour, Liselotte Watkins is an interdisciplinary artist working across a wide range of media including paper, ceramics and textiles. Originally from Sweden and now based in Rome, her work has a narrative quality that is born out of her training as an illustrator.
A graduate of the Art Institute of Dallas, Watkins first came to international attention after being commissioned to create illustrations for the New York Times. Her career as a fashion illustrator was informed by her interest in depictions of women and the feminine.
In recent textile and ceramic pieces, she has explored this interest further through both emotive and figurative forms, playing with tone and shape and collaborating with experienced craftspeople as well as working with industrial processes.
Watkins’ list of collaborators includes Miuccia Prada, Vogue, Marimekko, La Repubblica and the prestigious Bitossi ceramics workshop in Italy.
